You need to check your programme information to see the courses on your programme (note, you course codes for each stage). Then type you course codes in to the timetable search box. Next double check if you're looking at lectures, seminars, etc. (the "type" column will give you this information. Take a note of your times.
If you have multiple classes listed (such as multiple lectures) you should expect to attend all of them. Lectures can be up either taught in consecutive blocks (two or three hours) or across two or three days. There are exceptions. Some lectures are so popular that they are repeated. If you are unsure, speak with the Undergraduate Office.
Seminar groups will be decided over the first few weeks of semester 1 so don't worry if your courses shows multiple slots. These just give you an idea about when then different groups will meet. You will be given more information about this in your first week of lectures.
Frequently asked questions:
Don't worry, it will. Once you have spoken with your academic and support team, and have enrolled..... For new students this is handled in Freshers' Week. For continuing students, you will receive notification as to when you can pre-enrol (online).
If it's a clash in your optionals you should seek advice, but it is your responsibility to ensure your elective choices don't clash. Mandatory courses should not clash, but in the unlikely event that you find mandatory courses clashing, you should report this to the Undergraduate Office immediately.
Each programme structure has several columns. Columns are split into mandatory, optional and elective choices. Sometimes, due to the wide range of options available you may have to refer to a list at the bottom of the table.
You don't really need to know the details in order to complete your studies here. But you will get to understand the intricacies of course-codes eventually. If you really want to know, here's a quick guide: Each code has at least five digits. Heriot-Watt University is split in to several Schools. Each School has its own letter-code. School of Management and Languages (your School) has C-codes. Similarly the School is split in to five academic disciplines. This is the second digit. For example all C4-code courses belong to LINCS. The third digit is the stage, the order is 7,8,9,0,1 (first, second, third, fourth, years, then "1" for PG). The reasons for this are not important, but it links to a Scotland-wide system. The final two digits are then unique to the course name.
