Accountancy & Finance

Teaching

We currently offer a range of undergraduate programmes in Accountancy and Finance, including an MA (Hons) Accountancy & Finance which is accredited by all the major professional accountancy bodies.

Our postgraduate programmes in Accountancy & Finance build on key areas and specialisms across the spectrum of accounting and finance, as well as developing insight and analytical skills.

Research

Our research in Accountancy & Finance benefits from interdisciplinary collaboration both within the School and across other key areas of expertise in the University such as actuarial mathematics and financial risk. This is reflected by our two research centres in this area:

We are also involved in the Scottish Financial Risk Academy (SFRA) as well as the Genetics and Insurance Research Centre (GIRC).

Economics

Our undergraduate programmes in Economics are highly rated in league tables and student satisfaction surveys for our excellence in Economics teaching (ranked 1st in Scotland and 9th in the UK - National Student Survey 2013).

At postgraduate level Heriot-Watt is one of eight universities participating in the Scottish Graduate Programme in Economics (SGPE), a collaborative MSc programme that provides a through grounding in modern economic analysis and, optionally, three years of further study towards a PhD at one of the participating SGPE universities.

Research

Our Economics research has a strong policy focus with two key research centres:

We are also part of the Scottish Institute for Research in Economics (SIRE) to provide excellence in teaching, research, and knowledge exchange.
