All Stage 4 courses are Qualifying Courses.
Progression through the Programme requires the following minimum number of credits at each Stage (at the end of each stage all the pre-requisite courses for mandatory and optional courses to be studied at a higher Stage must be passed at Grade D or better):
90 credits (6 courses, with both languages at SCQF level 7 passed at Grade D or better)
210 credits (14 courses, with both languages at SCQF level 8 passed at Grade D or better. Plus, passes at Grade D or better in both mandatory courses at SCQF level 7)
360 credits (24 courses, with passes in both SCQF level 9 courses, plus passes at Grade D or better in both mandatory courses at SCQF level 8).
Under the University's Common Assessment and Progression System (CAPS), students meeting the requirements for progression to stage four of the MA (Hons) also meet the requirements for the award of the Bachelor of Arts (ordinary).
Where a student obtains grade A in no less than five out of eight courses completed at stage 3, the examination board will consider whether to make the award of Bachelor of Arts with distinction.
Honours classification is determined by a weighted average of marks attained in the 8 courses completed in Stage 4.
As specified in General Information for First Degree Students, reg. 3 (New), para. 16.4, resits of Stage 3 Qualifying Courses are allowed but only in order to gain credits for the course. For the purposes of determining the degree classification, the mark obtained in the first assessment of a Qualifying Course must be used.
